Douglas S. Brown, SPE, was appointed Director of United Reef Ltd. Before this appointment, he was Vice President of Production and Engineering for Rally Energy Corp. Brown earned a BS degree in electrical engineering from the
U. of Calgary.

John Browne, SPE, will retire as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of BP in July 2007. He will be succeeded by Tony Hayward, who is currently chief executive of E&P for BP.

Sense Intellifield reported two appointments. Bill Chmela, SPE, was named Vice President Sales and Marketing for software products, and Paul Lachin, SPE, was named Regional Manager for the Americas region. Before this appointment, Chmela was Regional Operations Manager for the Americas Region. Lachin has 25 years of experience spanning data-acquisition services and oil- and gasfield management.

Frank Claborn, SPE, was named Region Manager, Europe, Middle East, and Africa for Wood Group ESP. Before this appointment, he was Middle East Regional Manager for Wood Group ESP. Claborn earned a BS degree in science from Tarleton State U.

Al Denson, SPE, was appointed Vice President of Engineering for R2R Technologies, LLC. Before this appointment, he was Bolivian Country Manager and Chairman of Chaco S.A. for Amoco Corp. Denson earned BS and MS degrees in petroleum engineering from Mississippi State U.

Carlos F. Etcheverry, SPE, was appointed Chief Operating Officer (COO) for Latin America Land and E&P Services for Pride Intl. Inc. Before this appointment, he was Vice President–E&P Services for Pride.

Thomas Kaetzer, SPE, was named President and COO of Baseline Oil & Gas Corp. His 25 years of experience includes positions with Texaco, Vastar Resources, and Crimson Exploration Inc. Kaetzer earned a BS degree in civil engineering from the U. of Illinois and an MS degree in petroleum engineering from Tulane U.

Larry Kinch, SPE, was awarded an honorary Doctor of Technology degree from Robert Gordon U. His experience includes positions with Schlumberger, Shell, and BP. Kinch established two companies, Petroleum Engineering Services and Energy Development Partners.

 James M. Pappas, SPE, was selected 2007 Houston Area “Engineer of the Year.” He is Global Technology Coordinator for Devon Energy Corp. and a member of the SPE Board of Directors. Pappas is being honored for his record of service to his profession, contributions to numerous technical and professional societies, and longstanding involvement in civic and humanitarian activities.

Thierry Pilenko, SPE, was named Chairman and CEO of Technip. Before this appointment, he was Chairman and CEO of Veritas DGC. Pilenko earned degrees from the École Nationale Supérieure de Géologie and École du Pétrole et des Moteurs.

James E. Sigmon, SPE, was named Chairman of the Board of The Exploration Co. (TXCO). He currently is President and CEO of the company.

        

Knowledge Systems reported several appointments. Russell Smith, SPE, was named Managing Director for the Asia/Pacific center. Steve Hobart, SPE, was named Senior Technical Adviser for Global Operations. He earned a BS degree in petroleum engineering from the U. of Southwestern Louisiana. Alejandro Arboleda, SPE, was named Europe, Africa, and Middle East Business Development Manager. He earned a BS degree in petroleum engineering from the Colorado School of Mines. Steve Vest, SPE, was named Account Manager–North America Software Sales. He earned a BS degree in geology from Louisiana State U. and an MS degree in geology from Texas A&M U. Joshua Evans, SPE, was named Account Executive–North America Software Sales. He earned a BS degree in communications from Texas Tech U.

Charlie Topp, SPE, was appointed Middle East Regional Manager for PSL Energy Services. His 25 years of experience include senior positions with BJ Services and the Hydrolink Group.
